TYPES OF PAVERS

Clay Brick Pavers:
There’s no such thing as an indestructible material. Given enough time, or the application of enough force, any material can become weathered or damaged. One of the most impressive things about clay/brick paving is that it stands up to this march of time and force much better than most. The color retention of clay/brick paving is very high. And unlike other surfaces, such as concrete, chipping and weathering don’t automatically hurt the look of clay or brick. In some cases, the weathering effect can even add a bit more distinction and aesthetic appeal for people that prefer a more “worn” look.
Thanks to the eco-friendlier nature of clay and brick being made with natural materials, the concerns about colors wearing out is much lower due to the fact that the coloration is natural. Clay and brick also tend to be lower maintenance once they have been laid out, since they stand up to weathering and damage extremely well.
For anyone that is looking for a distinct, “warm” look to the surfaces laid out in a yard, driveway, or other surface, clay/brick paving is definitely a great choice. Options for the shape of the interlocking bricks you choose adds even more versatility to the unique look of this surface. For homeowners that have a desire for a look that’s more classic, clay/brick paving has been in use in America for centuries, and their experienced pavers in the country that have over 200 years of experience!
Concrete Cement Pavers:
The truth, however, is that this is just one application of concrete, and it can be a very versatile paver surface, especially if you decide to go with precast concrete paver or cement. With something that’s precast, you get access to a whole selection of different shapes and sizes. You can lay a neat grid, or you can go for something that looks a bit more organic with asymmetrical shapes, or even try different square and rectangular surfaces of different sizes for a truly unique landscape.
There will be different names to consider depending on the product and who’s offering it, such as concrete paving stone, concrete paving slabs and other variations. But the product itself is still the same. It’s a very simple, but versatile mix of sand, aggregate and color pigment. But don’t let that simplicity of components fool you. Precast concrete paver or cement can come out in a variety of different shapes, colors and textures thanks to just how versatile this material is.
If you’re interested in cement or concrete paver, there are two main types to consider. Face mixed and traditional core-mixed pavers are the most common choices you’ll be looking at, but which one you go with ultimately depends on the needs you have. You can also expect to have some choices in terms of how you buy your concrete/cement paver, varying between the band, square foot, or full cube. It all depends on the style being offered, and what your needs are for your project.

Granite Pavers:
The good news is that granite will last you the lifetime of the area you wish to use it. Ironically, the downside of this is that you’d better be sure that you’re happy with the look, because this is a look you’re going to have for the long haul. For anyone that is looking for a sturdy, attractive choice that you simply don’t have to worry much—or at all! —once it has been laid out, granite paver is a very attractive and incredibly durable choice.
Be sure to go over all your possible options with granite, since you’ll get the same material, but have a variety of shapes and colors to choose from. Whether it’s uniform sizes and shapes, something with a little more variation, a flat, opaque surface, or something with a bit of reflection to it, you don’t have to worry about being stuck with a monotonous, uniform selection.
Grass Pavers:
Grass paver is usually considered for more commercial purposes, such as needing an area for parking without flooding issues, or laying out a trail that needs to drain out water easily when it rains. However, grass paver has increasingly come to be used for residential purposes as well.
It’s one of the “greenest” solutions, since it still promotes the growth of plant life, and it can be made with a variety of different materials. While concrete is one popular choice for a more durable, hardy surface, plastic also works, especially in residential situations like yards that won’t have the same heavy demands as something like a parking lot.
Whether you have a business or commercial facility that needs to have a cost-effective solution to draining and water management problems, or you’ve got a home that would benefit from the same, grass pavers are a fantastic solution. They let you have a good surface with traction, but don’t create the same headaches as fully paved surfaces that may create water problems for you. People with sites on a slope or area with water management concerns have a great friend in grass paver solutions.

Pavers Slabs/Large Concrete Pavers:
Paver slabs, sometimes simply referred to as “pavement” are incredibly flexible. They give you a huge variety of choices in shape, color and size. So, you can enjoy much smaller pavement, made up of smaller units, full of texture and detail for more confined, intimate areas, or go for very large slabs if you’ve got a big piece of yard you want to give maximum coverage to.
Homeowners will be spoiled for choice, when it comes to design options with paver slabs or concrete pavers, meaning that you’ll be spending a lot of time mulling over your possibilities. For people that put a premium on aesthetics, this is one of the biggest advantages of paver slab, since you’ve got a huge range of different looks and design possibilities that are likely to meet the needs of the space you have.
While concrete pavers are a common choice, slabs can also be formed from natural stone, clay, and even acrylic substances, if that’s your desire. The different materials will have different strengths, weaknesses and appearances, so this is very much a process of looking at the space you have in mind, and narrowing down your vast number of options to the ones that meet your exact criteria. And once you’ve made your choice, completing the work for paver slabs is comparatively fast.
PAVERS STEPS

The Custom Solution
However, for people that really want to make a home and yard look and feel more truly their own pavers steps is a fantastic option to consider. The single concrete “stoop” while functional, is not very aesthetically appealing, and, over the years, can chip or weather way, still performing its duty for people coming and going into a home, but looking more and more worn out and unsightly as time passes.
Getting your own pavers steps done in conjunction with the rest of a yard takes care of this issue. Instead of a single unit, you’ll get layers or “bricks” that are constructed and interlocked to create your new steps. This can be as simple as replacing the original stoop you had in shape and area of coverage, or it can be the start of a much more elaborate step design that flows out to the rest of your yard’s landscaping the completes the look of the paving you have there.
You’ll have a choice of different materials for this as well. Concrete is still available if you prefer it, but you can also choose from brick and natural stone. If you love a particular material, but aren’t sure you want an entire paver made from that material, another option is to go with a thin paver over concrete, which still looks attractive, but is more cost effective.
Plank Pavers:
Plank paver landscaping is definitely a more modern choice for people that want a more cutting-edge look. The thickness of the paver comes in two varieties, with 2 3/8” for conventional yard and residential use, and a much sturdier 4” thickness for people that want aesthetic appeal that also stands up too much heavier commercial or even industrial demands.
People thinking about plank pavers aren’t so concerned with variety in terms of shape or color. The available plank pavers come in nine solid colors, so you’re not going to get any intricate stripes or other visual accents. The real appeal of this material is the unique, longer design of the planks, and the strength of the materials. Once you’ve made the choice to go with plank pavers, you’ll be surprised at just how versatile the look can be with a little imagination and creativity in the arrangement of the segments. Highly recommended for people that don’t want the “same old, same old” look they may have seen in other yard landscaping with more traditional choices. It’s an especially good choice if you know you’ll be using it in a high traffic area with a lot of usage from people.

Travertine/Stone Pavers:
The single biggest advantage of travertine/stone pavers is one of traction. When these substances get wet, they don’t become slippery, which means that in a swimming pool environment, children, adults and elderly adults don’t have to worry about losing their footing and sliding or tripping on tile.
This is a very important consideration for anyone that wants to have a beautiful—but safe—swimming pool environment. It’s especially important in a country like ours, where homeowners may be legally responsible for injuries suffered on the property if the cause can be attributed to negligence, such as insufficient safety measures at a pool.
Travertine pavers are also good for people that are cost conscious. They’re not on the high end of pricing for landscaping, but at the same time, they are both durable, and freeze-thaw resistant. You won’t need to take extra care to maintain them in your yard for decades. In fact, this material tends to resist discoloration better than others, and also doesn’t accumulate debris—such as moss growth—the way others can. This also makes them easy to clean in the event of spills or other accidents.
All of this is important to consider for a pool environment. The constant exposure to water and other weathering elements may take a toll on some other pavers, such as concrete-based materials, which can eventually fade in color over time, or, worse yet, become slippery when wet. This is never an issue with travertine/stone pavers. Just make sure you take advantage of all the options you have available, since you can get this paver in a wide variety of different shapes, colors and even textures.
Thin/Remodel pavers:
Faster, Cheaper, Thinner
As the name implies, thin/remodel pavers are materials that are much thinner than the conventional pavers people are used to. Those pavers may often be a few inches thick, but that’s because they are created to be laid out as a solid foundation for people to step on, or, for commercial uses, for heavy vehicles to park on. Thin/remodel pavers are meant to be laid out on an existing paved landscape. If you think of it as a new “façade” that covers an existing landscape you’re not happy with, that’s the most accurate way to view what this paver can do for you.
Because of that, thin/remodel pavers are mostly recommended for residential usage in yards. They are not designed to stand up to heavy commercial or industrial use thanks to their thinner structure, but they’re more than adequate for everyday home/yard use. And while all thin/remodel pavers are always made from concrete, you get a huge variety of colors, shapes and sizes to choose from when it comes to redoing your yard.
There are a few things you need to be aware of when going this route. One great advantage of thin/remodel pavers is that they are lower in cost and much faster to lay out since there’s no digging or excavating involved. However, this is a thinner material and may not be as durable as thicker materials. It’s a bit more vulnerable to chipping and damage compared granite or other materials, but with the right care and respect, it’s still a functional, aesthetic alternative and can serve your yard needs well.

FAQ´s
Will my pavers crack like concrete or asphalt?
No, pavers are a flexible, segmental paving system. This allows for expansion and contraction without producing surface cracks.
Can paver be removed or replaced without damage?
Yes, pavers can be removed and replaced with ease to allow access to existing utilities, root repairs or placements of new ones making the pavers reusable.
Does the color go all the way through pavers?
All pavers that we use have throughout the entire paver, providing deep rich colors and a smooth, dense wear layer. This results in long lasting color.
What can I do if my pavers are stained or damaged?
Special products are available to clean different types of stains from concrete products.
If they are exceptionally stained or are damaged, individual units can be removed and replaced.
How can I remove moss or mold from my pavers?
Try liquid bleach diluted in water (10 parts water to one part bleach). Be careful not to get it on plant material. Keep in mind that there is nothing that will keep moss and mold from reappearing
in a shady, damp area.
Will weeds grow between my pavers?
Weeds and grass between pavers occur when seeds or spores lodge in the joints between pavers. They will not grow from underneath. If weeds do appear, a spot vegetation killer (such as Round-Up) can be used and will not damage the pavers.
What materials do you use as foundations?
We generally use D.O.T. (Department of Transportation) approved lime rock base. However, with certain ground conditions it may require other types of bases.
